Lyrically, this song is absurdly vague. That's what happens when you write lyrics inspired by the actions of close friends. Also, it's political. So, there's that...
Musically, Bandit Guides came out nearly fully formed after my acoustic demo was presented to the band. I recall the bass, drums, keys, and second guitar arriving to their final destination rather quickly. However, my guitar continued to transform until it split into 3 additional guitar tracks. Because, who doesn't like 4 guitar tracks on a song?!

lyrics
The empire clutches command, you’ve seen their hand.
And made a jubilant call to town, “Citizens! Lay your arms down!”
They were cut down and the king never lost his crown.
You’re walking in a sandstorm shutting your eyes
With severed hands and bandit guides.
Passing off your dallying for a system
that cannot change, it’s above the small man’s range.
A dot to Seurat, faded then forgot.
You’re walking in a sandstorm shutting your eyes
With severed hands and bandit guides.
